Our approachThe order matters. Plenty of clinics start treating in the first ten minutes; we'd rather spend those minutes working out what we're dealing with. Here's what a first visit with a Sunshine Coast chiropractor at Absolute Health actually looks like.
Your first appointment starts with your story: when the pain started, what it stops you doing, what you've already tried, what your week looks like. A tradie's back and an accountant's back may hurt in the same spot for completely different reasons, and the history usually points to which one we're looking at.
We'll also ask about the boring but important things, medications, past surgeries and red-flag symptoms, because ruling things out is part of the job.
Then we test the theory. Movement testing, orthopaedic and neurological checks, palpation of the joints and muscles involved. You'll be asked to bend, turn and resist. Nothing dramatic, and nothing that hasn't been explained first.
By the end of the examination we can usually tell you three things: what the problem most likely is, what's keeping it going, and whether chiropractic treatment is the right tool for it.
Our Mooloolaba clinic houses a low-dose digital X-ray suite. That's unusual for a chiropractic clinic on the Sunshine Coast, and we're deliberate about how we use it.
We don't X-ray everyone. Imaging happens when the history or examination raises a specific question: significant trauma, suspected degenerative change, an unexplained loss of movement, symptoms that don't add up. When that's the case, being able to walk down the hall beats being handed a referral slip and a two-week wait.
Nambour patients who need imaging are referred to local providers, and results come back to your file either way.
If none of these apply, we'll tell you an X-ray isn't needed. That answer is free.
Chiropractic adjustment, the quick and specific movement that restores motion to a stuck spinal joint, is the core of what we do. In the right hands it's precise, controlled and over in a moment. If you'd rather avoid the click, say so: drop-piece, instrument-assisted and mobilisation techniques get to a similar place more gradually.
Around the adjustment sits the rest of the toolkit: soft-tissue work for the muscles guarding the joint, home exercises so improvements hold between visits, and honest advice about desks, pillows, boots and boards.
Both clinics run chiropractic and physiotherapy side by side. Not two businesses sharing a lease: one clinical team, one patient file.
That changes decisions. A disc presentation that needs progressive loading gets a physiotherapist involved early. A stubborn tension headache might get dry needling alongside adjustment. And when your problem turns out not to be a chiropractic problem at all, the handover is immediate rather than "here's a name, good luck".
Some problems settle in two visits. Some take a couple of months of consistent work. What we recommend follows the findings and gets reviewed against your progress. If you're ahead of schedule, the plan shortens.
What you won't find here: prepaid lifetime packages, pressure to sign up the family, or a schedule that never seems to end regardless of how you feel. That style of practice exists; it isn't ours.
First visits run longer than standard appointments so nothing gets rushed. Book online, or call the clinic nearest you and tell us what's going on.
